Summer Project Leader Assignment Tier 1

Project Title

Due

Done?

Leader

Description

Why

Udemy Course per tech:

July 1

  •

Aaron / All Techs

Have each tech member find (or assign) a udemy / book growth area

Force each tech to build on skill or learn a new skill. For example, one member is learning Powershell.  We work 4/10s, so I hope to sit down with each tech on Thursday and have them tell me/ review with me what they learned that week. Expectation of at least 30 minutes a day towards this, if not 1 hour due to summer “slowdown” this year. Tracked via Ticket

Basic Networking Training

Now

  •

Aaron

Aaron creates workshops to cover areas where many techs are lacking in networking knowledge. I had techs fill out a ‘survey’ based on the network+ syllabus of what they knew a lot of, and what they never heard about.

Grow tech’s skills starting with areas that most techs ranked themselves as low knowledge on topics. I’m hoping to build all skill level up, as the rising tide lifts all boats.  After an initial “group training”, build more 1:1 training talking points for areas that only “Tech C” struggles with, to avoid boring training.

New Firewall / Filter Install

July 3

  •

Afrim

Install Fortigate FW and Filtering

Replace Smoothwall filter with fortigate FW and LineWize filtering

SOPPA Ipad Apps

July 9

  •

Andrew

Go through ipad apps and check for SOPPA compliance / necessity

Any app that collects & stores PII for students, we should have a data privacy agreement with, per Illinois’s new Law “SOPPA”.

SOPPA Catchon

July 9

  •

Tom

Go through “catchon” to find chrome websites/extensions that are heavily used for SOPPA compliance.

See ipad explanation

We need to have all K-1 ipads wiped and apps reinstalled for grade level apps.

Prep Voip Phones for mass install

Create provision scripts, train techs on how to deploy and manage new phones as the new “admin” phone going forward.

Replace all broken classroom voip phones

July 30

Description

Why

MDF / IDF Clean up

July 23

  •

Afrim

Review and update MDF/IDF documentation & labeling and cable mgmt.

Some of the cables are 8 feet long going 3 feet, or new stuff has been put in, or old taken out, yet labels are missing, or out of date.  Helps in troubleshooting to have a simple list of what ports are for what vlans in data closet.

Cabling to Camera Computer In Office

Aug 2

  •
  •

All

JES

Each front office has a TV + “NUC” (mini pc), most of them connect via wireless.

To run a “security camera monitor” with 6+ camera feeds, is a bit taxing on wifi, could free up wifi space for more legit traffic.  Also would solve random disconnect issues/bugs on always on security terminals.

Easy IEP Data Rostering - Python

July 30

  •

Tom & Pam

Automate IEP data rostering

Our method is very clunky and not well maintained. Should be able to automate all of it, or most of it.

Teacher Software Documentation How/Tos

August 6

  •

David

Review and build additional teacher how-to documentation as we have more apps this year

Give teachers a “how to” website for all popular applications we have. We have a good foundation, but can go a lot further.

Parent How To

Start of School

  •

Aaron

Update Parent how to website for new content

Post how to videos/articles for parents of those using new materials. Consider small video workshops of ~15 minutes for navigating things etc. Advertise it to parents.
