Google Meet Instructions

Initial Setup:

  1. Make sure you are signed into Google using your MIN201 account.

  2. On PCs, it runs through the web browser, so no additional installation is required.

  3. Smartphones can also access Meet by installing the Google Meet app (must be logged into a Google account).

Creating a meeting:

Option 1: Google Calendar

  1. Open Google Calendar https://calendar.google.com/

  2. Click Create > Event

  3. Enter meeting information

  4. Click  Add Google Meet video conferencing

  5. Click Save 

  6. Select the meeting in your calendar and then click on the copy icon to copy the meeting information.  You can then paste the meeting information into an email, Seesaw, Google Classroom, etc. to send to guests.

Option 2: Impromptu

  1. Go to https://meet.google.com/

  2. Click on New meeting

  3. Select Create a meeting for later , Start an instant meeting , or Schedule in Google Calendar

  4. Create a meeting for later: Click icon to copy meeting info to send to guests

  5. Instant Meeting: Select Add others or select the copy icon to copy meeting info to send to others

 

Joining a meeting:

  1. The most common way is simply clicking the link that the host has sent to you, whether it’s in an email, calendar event, etc.

  2. Select Join now

  3. Allow Meet to use your camera and microphone if prompted

 

 

Google Meet Window :

 

 

A: The screen being shared by the presenter. This is what participants in the meeting will see.

B: Microphone (red = muted)

C: Camera (red = camera turned off)

D: Turn on/off Captions

E: Send a reaction (this will send an emoji across the screen from bottom to top)

F: Present Now (select an entire screen, a window, or a tab to present in the meeting)

G: Raise your Hand to ask a question

H: More Options 

I: Leave the meeting

J: Meeting Details

K: Show all the participants in the meeting

L: Send a chat to all participants

M: Activities

 

In addition to the options above, the host of the meeting will have another option that participants do not see.

N: Host Controls

Muting or Removing a participant from the meeting:

Only the host can mute or remove others from the meeting.

  1. Click on the People icon 

    1. You will see a list of participants. 

  2. To mute a participant, click on the mute icon next to that participant

  3. Select Mute

    1. Only the participated who was muted can unmute

  4. To remove a participant from the meeting, click on the more actions icon next to that participant

  5. Select Remove from the call

 

Breakout Rooms:

Breakout rooms can be accessed by clicking on the "activities" icon. 

Click on Breakout rooms, and then you can move students to different groups. 

On this page you can select how many rooms to create, and then click and drag participants to move them to a room.

Recording a meeting:

  1. Select the More options  icon

  2. Select Manage recording

  3. Select Start recording

  4. Select Start
