Using Kami

Kami is a PDF and Document annotation app for schools. 


Creating Your Kami Account

Any Kami account created with an '@min201.org' email address, will automatically qualify for the full version of Kami. By creating your own account, you register with our Domain.


**PLEASE NOTE: THESE STEPS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE ALREADY SIGNED INTO CHROME** 

  1. Go to Https://kamiapp.com and click the green Create Account button in the top right-hand corner.
     
  2. Leave K-12 selected, and select Teacher

  3. Enter the School zip code (must match your school), and then start typing your school name. It should start to populate the list. Select your school, then hit Finish

  4. You are now registered with Kami! Our Education trial only lasts through April 30th (The current date of our state shutdown) Should that get extended, the trial will extend. 


**IF YOU WERE NOT SIGNED INTO CHROME**

  1. Navigate to Https://kamiapp.com and click 'Create an Account'
     
  2. Select With Google 
  3. Enter your Min201 Email address, followed by your password. 
  4. The pop-up will close, and you will be brought to the Kami homepage. Your account is created, and you are signed in! 


Installing Kami To Your Device

You'll want to make sure you have the following extensions to ensure you have full functionality with all of the tools:

Click on each link, and then follow the instillation steps to add each extension to your browser by clicking 'Add to Chrome'


Connecting Your Google Drive To Kami

**PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY DOWNLOADED THE KAMI EXTENSIONS, AND CREATED YOUR ACCOUNT**

You can connect Google Drive to Kami by following these steps:

  1. Open Drive, by going to drive.google.com
  2. Right click on any PDF file
  3. Hover over Open with 
  4. Select Connect more apps
  5. Search for Kami and select Connect
     


Create a Kami Assignment in Google Classroom

Create an assignment using the Create Kami Assignment button in Google Classroom. Note: This can only be done AFTER you have connected your Google Drive to Kami in the steps above. 

In Google classroom - select 'Create' - and then choose Kami Assignment 


Grading a Kami assignment in Google Classroom

After students have completed, and turned in their work using Kami via Google Classroom

  1. Open the Classwork tab in Google Classroom.
  2. Click on the Turned In tab.
  3. Choose the student whose work you want to grade.
  4. Click the Grade With Kami button.
  5. You can now annotate and mark the assignment using the Kami tools. 
  6. Click the blue Return button to send the feedback to the student.
     

Teacher Tools

These tools allow you to do various adjustments to PDF (and other) files.

Student's also have access to these tools on their end as well.

Markup 

The Markup tool allows you to highlight certain texts, or create highlighted boxes in your PDF. There is also a strike-through tool, and an underlining tool.

Simply click on the tool you want, choose a color, and highlight the text with your mouse.

Comment 

Commenting allows you to place a comment on your PDF, much like you would a Google Doc.

To add a comment, click on the comment tool, and highlight the text you want to comment on.

Put your comment in and press enter.

With our current trial of the Pro version, you can also leave audio and video comments

Text Box 

The Text Box tool allows you to type something in a box, and place that box anywhere on the PDF.

To insert a text box, click the text box tool, and click on the screen where you want it to go.

You can resize and move this box much like you would in word or google docs.

Drawing Tools 

Drawing tools allow you to mark up your PDF by drawing on it like you would in Microsoft Paint.

The first tool Drawing, which allows you to draw in various colors.

The second tool is the Shape tool. This allows you to create preset shapes and place them in your pdf.

The final tool is the Eraser tool, which you can use to remove any drawing you may have done.

Images 

The Image tool allows you to place images into your PDF, and adjust the side of them.

Text-to-Speech 

With our current trial of the pro version, there is also a text-to-speech function that will attempt to read any text on the page.

This works fairly well, but there are some circumstances where it will not read the text, so your mileage may vary.

Equations 

With our current trial of the pro version, you can add various math symbols into your document.

These could be useful for showing work on an assignment you may not normally be able to without physically writing it.
